Are You Seeking a Relationship with God?

If you are seeking to know God it is because He is already seeking you. God sent His Son, Jesus, to seek and to save that which was lost (Luke 19:10). If you are stirred to know God, isn’t it encouraging to know that those inner stirrings are God-given? God is drawing you to know Jesus as your Savior (John 6:44). The Bible tells us all we need to know about having a relationship with God. Let’s take a brief look at how to get there.

We Had a Great Beginning

God made man and woman in His own image and placed them in charge of the earth (Genesis 1:27-28). Everything was perfect. They had a personal, uninterrupted relationship with God, their Creator, in an ideal environment.

We Broke Away from God

The first man and woman decided to disobey a clear command that God gave them for their own good. In so doing, they broke fellowship with God and death entered human experience for the first time. Because all people are spiritually and genetically linked to Adam, his disobedient spirit is passed on from one generation to the next. We have all disobeyed God and broken fellowship with Him. The result is death in time and eternity (Romans 1:32 and 6:23).

God Arranged to Bring Us Back

Sin breaks our fellowship with God and subjects us to His justifiable wrath against rebellion. There are two ways to deal with sin’s death penalty. We can each pay it ourselves or someone else can pay it for us. Because of His great mercy and love, God arranged for His Son, Jesus, to pay the death penalty in our place. Because He was completely without sin, Jesus was qualified to stand in as our substitute.

You can have a Relationship with God

When God stirs your heart to respond, you can enter into a relationship with Him. Jesus said, “The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel”(Mark 1:15) . To repent is to change your mind about sin – from loving it to hating it. You will change your mind about God and begin to love Him, seeking to live in obedience to Him. To believe the Gospel is to trust in Jesus’ death on the Cross as the full payment for your sins. It is to trust Him and Him alone for eternal life.

The Bible says, “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the LORD shall be saved” (Romans 10:13) . As God calls you, I encourage you to speak to Him in a simple prayer of faith receiving Jesus as your Savior and committing to follow Him as Lord.
